| Washington, D. C. Accommodations When you select your hostel or hotel, keep in mind that some parts of the District of Columbia are safer than others, especially at night. Be careful when choosing accommodations in the Northeast and Southeast quadrants of the District. If you are planning to stay out late, consider splurging on a taxi when you return to your lodgings. Otherwise, here are some of our favorites: Hostelling International ,1009 11th Street NW Inexpensive accommodations close to the District's main sights and museums. You can't beat the location, and your single-sex or co-ed dorm bed will cost just $29 if you're a Hostelling International member (non-members pay $32). Breakfast is $1.65. Be sure to make advance reservations unless you're traveling in the dead of winter. The hostel offers free guided tours each week, including a Tuesday trip to CNN's CrossFire talk show. (Metro: Metro Center) Hilltop Hostel, 300 Carroll St NW A friendly, affordable choice. It's right near the Takoma Metro stop and at $22 per night for a dorm bed (including free WiFi and DSL internet), it's an excellent choice for budget-conscious travelers. Guests can use the hostel's kitchen to prepare food (see Cheap Eats for grocery store locations). If the weather is poor, you can hang out at the hostel and shoot pool, play ping-pong and foosball or watch satellite TV. (Metro: Takoma) American Guest House, 2005 Columbia Road, N. W. If small hotels are more your style, consider this small bed and breakfast hotel, nestled in one of the District's most exclusive areas. They offer double rooms starting at $100 per night. You'll sleep near the embassies, and you'll be five blocks from the lively Dupont Circle neighborhood. Breakfast is included in your room rate and WiFi is free during your stay. (Metro: Dupont Cirle) You can also find affordable motels near Metro stations outside the District. The Quality Inn Iwo Jima, located at 1501 Arlington Blvd. in Arlington, Va., is just a few blocks from the Rosslyn Metro station. The motel features free WiFi, an exercise room and indoor pool. Rooms start at $89 per weekend night. (Metro: Rosslyn) Where is your favorite cheap place to sleep in Washington DC? Tell us here. <<Washington DC Home Washington DC Cheap Eats> |
