On The Cheap Travel
Our Favorite Budget Itineraries: San Francisco

Wake up at the Park Hotel ($49.50).

Plan for the trip to Fisherman’s Wharf/Ghirardelli Square. Scout out a
grocery store to buy some snacks for the day. ($4.00).

Board MUNI Bus #30/Stockton, and get off at North Point St. & Hyde St.
approximately 15 minutes later. (Bus fare approx. $1.50.) OR walk the one
and a half miles (that’s not that far!) to Pier 39, and pass through Chinatown
on the way.

Take your time to peruse the fancy shops of Fisherman’s Wharf and
Ghirardelli Square. Also take some time to enjoy the World Famous Sea
Lions, and take a lot of pictures. You should be able to take some pictures of
Alcatraz, the Bay Bridge, and, of course, the Golden Gate Bridge.

From here, it’s a short walk to the Musee Mechanique. Better bring a lot of
change with you, and be prepared for penny-arcade thrills!

For lunch, take the Hyde Street Cable Car and get off on Jackson ($3.00).
At 1468 Hyde is U-Lee, a Chinese Food restaurant. Have yourself one (or
two) of those great big pot stickers (should run about $8.00).

After you are full, walk four blocks north and go to the N.E. Corner of Union
St and Hyde St. Take the MUNI bus #45/Union-Stockton to Lyon St. and
Greenwich St. The trip will cost $1.50, and should take a half-hour.

You should see the Palace of Fine Arts there. Bring your digital camera,
because you’ll want to take as many pictures of that as you can.

Whenever you’re ready to go, head to the S.W. corner of Lyon and
Greenwich St. Take the Muni 45/Union-Stockton Bus to 4th St. and Mission
St ($1.50).

Explore the Metreon, with its entire video and electronic splendor.

Stop by your hotel, and walk down to 653 Clay Street, and have dinner at
the Pakwan (6.50).

Head back to the hotel, and hang in the lobby and enjoy the free wireless
service.

Total: $74-84.
