On The Cheap Travel
San Francisco Cheap Eats

If you walk along San Francisco downtown, you will be bombarded by some of
the best scents the world has to offer. Here are a few restaurants of various
international cuisines that are easy on the wallet.

Cordon Bleu Vietnamese Restaurant (1575 California St. at Polk)

The French-sounding name of this place is kind of misleading, but this restaurant
serves wonderful Vietnamese food at a low price. For fewer than 8 dollars, you
can enjoy a good combo meal that includes 5-spice chicken, grilled barbeque
pork, an imperial roll, rice with sauce, and a country salad.

Pakwan Restaurant (3 locations: 501 O’Farrell St., 653 Clay St., and 3180-82
16th St.)

If you like Indian/Pakistani food, this is the place to go for less than 7 dollars. At
that price, you should be able to afford chicken tikka masala, briyani, naan, and
even a garbanzo bean dahl.

The Pork Store Café (1451 Haight Street)

As the name implies, this place is dedicated to all things pork, and you can
definitely pork out with the Pork Store Special. For $6.95, you can get two pork
chops, two eggs, two biscuits, and lots of hash browns.

Chow (215 Church Street)

What the name says, that is what it gives. The food choice is incredibly diverse.
The highlights include Goat Cheese and Mushrooms on Toast ($6), Sonoma
chicken ($9), lemon and butter mussels ($6.50), and a salmon sandwich ($8).

U-Lee (1468 Hyde at Jackson)

U-Lee serves some good Chinese food at a reasonable price. It is a great place to
pick up some chow mein, or General Tso’s chicken. The biggest highlight on the
menu is the very large pot stickers.

Yokoso Nippon (314 Church Street in the Castro)

Of course, there are many places to get sushi in San Francisco, but none who will
give you such a low price on a double order. Be warned though, last time we
checked, there was no sign out front.   Also, be sure to bring cash, since that’s all
they will accept.
