                             London: Packing Light

Packing light is essential to traveling On The Cheap.  Particularly for London,
where the Tube will have you going up and down flights of stairs, through narrow
turnstiles and navigating tremendous crowds.  Here are some of our tips for
packing light in London:

One suitcase! Yes, you can do it.  One case and one carry-on (that can
double as a day-pack) will make your trip so much more fun.

Rolling clothes while packing will help you fit more in.

Two pairs of shoes.  Make them comfortable, broken in and versatile.

Pick clothing that goes with at least two other items for your trip.

Try to pick lodging with laundry facilities.

Take travel size toiletries.  These items are expensive in London, so be sure
to pack what you need.

Take along a set of silverware (or at the very least, a multifunction tool) to
facilitate picnics in parks.

Pack a thin "micro-towel". Picking one in a dark color will let you also use it
a light blanket, cover-up, etc.  Bandannas also make good multi-use items.

Copies of any prescriptions, emergency numbers, etc.  Email what you can
to a web-based address such as Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.
