| New York City: Cheap Eats There are a million restaurants in New York or so it seems. This can make choosing a place difficult. Here are some ideas of where to eat cheaply. Our Choice: Diners New York City is full of diners and eating at one is a great way to get a taste of local culture while getting an inexpensive meal. Diners typically have a huge menu, are very affordable and are open 24 hours a day. The best places to find diners are on the busier streets, but that is certainly not the only place they are located. Keep your eyes peeled and you’re sure to find one near your hostel. The Moondance Diner located at 23rd Street and 9th Avenue is a good place to check out as well as the more upscale yet still affordable Gracie Mews diner located on the Upper Eastside at East 81st Street and 1st Avenue. Also Notable: Burger Heaven Burger Heaven is a reasonably priced chain of American food with several locations around Manhattan. You can get a good meal here for as little as $7.00, which is excellent in Manhattan. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are offered. Lemongrass Grill The Lemongrass Grill is an affordable Thai restaurant with several Manhattan locations. The service is fast and the food is good. Depending on what you order you can expect to spend between $8 and $16. Bleecker Street Running from the Lower Westside to the Lower Eastside of Manhattan, Bleecker Street offers up many interesting and reasonably priced restaurants. Some of the restaurants are more expensive than others but most restaurants post the menus outside, so browse and see what sounds good to both you and your wallet. Eating on or around Bleecker Street (the restaurants are not exclusive to that street) will be more expensive than a diner or McDonald’s but might make for a fun last night in the city. You can eat here for under $20. --Amanda Chase Where is your favorite cheap place to eat in New York? Let us know here. <<New York Home Free New York>> |
