             Budapest:  Our Favorite Budget Itineraries

It's a cinch to have a full day of sights in Budapest without spending
very much money.  Here's an example of one of our favorite days:

Start out on Castle Hill.  In addition to the palace, there is St. Matthews
Church, Fisherman's Bastion, a lovely  neighborhood to stroll through, and a
fabulous view across the Danube.

Take the Funicular (about $3.25 USD) down the hill towards the river.
Walk across the Chain Bridge and peek inside the Four Seasons hotel
lobby.  This building used to be Gresham Palace and still retains many of the
architectural details.

A few blocks behind Gresham Palace is St. Stephens Cathedral.  This is a
must stop and is one of the most beautiful in all of Europe.  Have lunch at
one of the cafe's in the square (we like Leroy) or have a picnic in the square
and people-watch.
