| Budapest: Cheap Eats Budapest has culinary delights for every budget and palate. Be sure to have some langos (similar to an elephant ear with savory toppings, we like it with cheese and sour cream) and sample some palinka ( a local liquor similar to brandy). Here are some of our other favorites: Traditional Hungarian: Paprika, near Heroes Square and City Park. This restaurant is adorable and made up to look like a Hungarian cottage from long ago. Classic Hungarian dishes such as chicken paprikas, stews (gulyas or goulash) and desserts are served here in delicious and ample portions. Café: Muvesz Kavehaz (Museum Coffeehouse), Andrassy ut 29. Just steps across the street from the magnificent Opera House, this cafe makes you feel like you've stepped into a different time. Opulent decor, luscious sweets and good strong coffee make a rainy afternoon a treat. Mexican: The Iguana, Zoltán u. 16. A watering hole for many of the British and American expats, but still a delicious place to rest and recharge for the rest of your sightseeing. An easy walk from the Parliament or a slightly longer one from Deak Ter. Crepes: Granny's Pancake House (Nagyi Palacsintazoja), near the Batthyany Ter (Square) and other locations as well. Delicious crepes with both savory and sweet fillings, and they have an English menu as well. Pastries/Sweets: Augustz, Feny Utca 8. Located behind the large Mammut shopping center near Moskva Ter. A perfect little sugar rush. Where is your favorite cheap food in Budapest? Tell us here. <<Budapest Home Free Budapest>> |
