Boston: Cheap Lodging

Hanging your hat in Boston doesn’t have to cost the earth. Hostels and cheap
B&Bs offer safe, clean environments for minimal expenditure.

Our Choice: Hostelling International Boston Downtown (12 Hemenway St)

H.I. Boston Downtown offers six-bed single sex and mixed dorms starting at just
$37. Membership to Hostelling International is essential, but well worth it due to the
free breakfast, Internet access, WiFi, coffee and tea all day, Xbox access,
welcome gift, in room lockers, shampoo, walking tour and evening programs! Non
members will be charged an extra $3 per night. Guests may stay up to 14 nights in
any 6 month period.

Also Notable: Berkeley Residence, YWCA (40 Berkeley Street)

Right in the heart of Boston, the
YWCA offers female guests “private rooms” and
male guests “dorms.” All rooms are reminiscent of college dorm rooms, but clean
and cheap. Prices start at $45 including breakfast, an on-site restaurant, Internet
access, laundry on the premises, 24 hour reception, and bike parking. A 14 day
maximum stay is enforced.

Morrison House Bed and Breakfast (221 Morrison Avenue, Somerville, MA)

In 1997, Davis Square was selected as one of the 50 Hippest Neighborhoods in
North America by the Utne Reader, and little has changed since! In the center of
the great area is the
Morrison House B&B, with rooms starting at just $75 per
night. This gets you easy access to the Davis T stop, a “Continental plus” breakfast,
an in-house computer, WiFi network, answering machine, cable TV and DVD
player, clock radio and hairdryer. All rooms are decorated to a high, clean standard
and if you are planning on prolonging your stay, a “pay for 6, stay 7” night special is
available.

The Beech Tree Inn Bed and Breakfast (83 Longwood Avenue, Brookline)

Often described as a home away from home,
The Beech Tree Inn has won a slew
of regional awards for its hospitality. Located near the St. Paul Street T stop, the
Inn is conveniently located for downtown Boston, major tourist attractions, and
many of the city’s colleges and universities. Rooms start at $89 per night, and
include distinctive New England furnishings, TV and video facilities, Internet access,
a private telephone with voicemail, and a delicious Continental breakfast.
Newspapers and books are also provided daily in the library.
