On The Cheap Travel
Barcelona: Getting Around

Barcelona’s excellent metro system makes navigating the city a breeze.
Many of the main attractions can be found in the city center, where the
pedestrian streets and tree-lined plazas can only be appreciated by
walking, and a short trip on the subway will take you to some of the more
remote tourist sites such as Montjuic or La Sagrada Familia.

Metro tickets are inexpensive at 1.20 euros each, though a number of
discounted options exist for unlimited use over several days, or one
month. Probably the best bet, at 6.65 euros, is the option that allows for
ten trips, without a time limit--for about half the cost of regular fare, and
half the cost of an unlimited three-day pass, it will probably cover all the
metro travel you’ll need. Stations have ticket booths, as well as
automated machines.

These tickets are also valid for the city bus and tram lines, though
not night buses. This allows the flexibility of being able to jump on
whichever kind of transport you run into first. Maps are posted at each
bus or metro stop, and can be purchased at tourist offices.

Taxis are also relatively cheap, especially when traveling in groups,
and sometimes the only option late at night. Ask about the price
beforehand. If you see several taxis in a row, go to the one in front.
