Barcelona: Free Things to Do

Beautiful architecture is always free, and in a city known for its
resident masters, you can’t go far without stumbling across one of their works,
and the city itself offers a wealth of places to wander.

Las Ramblas

The pedestrian main boulevard of the city, where street
performers, residents and tourists keep this lively hub happening into
the late hours of the night. From the enormous Plaza de Catalunya at one
end to the city’s waterfront at the other, you’ll find everything from pet
shops and florists to museums and souvenir shops.

Barri Gotic
Just off Las Ramblas lies the old quarter of the city, in
whose labyrinthine streets and tree-lined plazas you’ll find remnants of the
ancient Roman walls, and a gorgeous Gothic cathedral. Spend the day
wandering, then relax at a cafe on the plaza.

Parc Guell

You’ll find visitors from all over the world here,
exploring the strange monuments and landscapes of Gaudi’s surreal vision of a city
park. Leave at least an afternoon to explore the huge grounds, and take the
bus or metro, as it’s far from the city center.

The Beach

Get away from the city and bathe in the Mediterranean. On
Sundays in the summertime you’ll even find live music performances in the
evening.
